In preparation for our music marketing project my group research the genre heavy rock. We each researched four different artists from different recording companies. The bounce we researched were MÃ¥neskin, Sleep Token, Slipknot, and In the Moment. Researching this band helped us get a deeper understanding of the heavy rock genre, and how fans engage with the artist. We found that heavy metal bands typically wear dark colors and have their own very specific themes. This band typically use back stories or lower to be able to better engage with their fan base. Fans typically seem to engage with themes, such as love loss or longing which are themes that are seen a lot in heavy metal music. Through our research we also found that a lot of these bands have a huge present in social media or just TikTok and Instagram and it is one of the main ways there are able to reach out to their fans. Bands use digital marketing and distribution methods just as much as they use non-digital marketing and distribution, they used merchandise like merch and vinyls to further market themselves and interact with their fans in different ways. Overall, we came to the conclusion that while many heavy metal bands have a lot of different stories and ways that they go about marketing themselves, they usually follow similar themes through their marketing and the way they represent themselves. After conducting our research, we began to develop a brand for our new artist. We came up with the band, eternal kiss. This is a band made up by woman, and it would be marketed towards women, even though heavy metal tends to typically be a male dominated genre. We came up with a marketing strategy, which will further continue to develop throughout the process of our campaign, and we began to plan how we would further distribute and advertise our brand.
